When Israel Stands Alone

When Israel Stands Alone

Zechariah 12

An Oracle.

The word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus says the Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the human spirit within: See, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of reeling for all the surrounding peoples; it will be against Judah also in the siege against Jerusalem. On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it shall grievously hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth shall come together against it. … 9 And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Salute to the Bulge

Salute to the Bulge

Thanksgiving is wrapping up for me. Several return trips to the trough, a couple of naps, and many hours later, I’m finally ready to call it for the night.

I certainly hope that every American was able to celebrate in some way today. I want to thank my local food bank for putting on a big spread for people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to enjoy the holiday, and for getting out the word so that people had time to donate money toward this wonderful event. I also heard that Feeding America served Thanksgiving dinner to the Hurricane Sandy victims, many of whom still do not have power as December gets closer and closer.

The Democratic party needs the poor

The Democratic party needs the poor

A few days back I was having a chat with my just barely right of center but still Democrat mother about the voting block of the Democratic party. I was wondering about the demographics for voting purposes. The Democratic party is, largely, very dependent on an extremely poor and undereducated voting group made of minorities.

What I was wondering was  – if they actually improve their lot in life, don’t they become the ‘evil’ rich enemy? Isn’t it in the natural voting benefit of the Democratic party for the voting base to remain the voting demographic that it is? What happens if people start moving up and out of poverty and gaining an education? Do they no longer find a relevant voice for them in the Democratic party that has become very anti-wealth, anti-business, and generally spiteful of anyone who has more?

International Men’s Day 2012

International Men’s Day 2012

Today is a day for men. International Men’s Day is celebrated in over 50 countries. A day to think about how they fit into society, where things are going well and where they are not. A day to consider health issues that relate to men, and particularly this year where the celebration theme is ‘health.’ With the focus on health, it seems particularly relevant that it also happens to take place in the month of the Movember celebration (where men try to raise prostate cancer awareness by growing out mustaches all month).

Today is Homemade Bread Day

Today is Homemade Bread Day

According to my strange holiday calendar, today is Homemade Bread Day. Well, I Loooooooove homemade bread. In fact, the only reason I don’t make it more often is that I would gain a hundred pounds in the first month. We all would. Any time we make homemade bread, everyone can smell it and comes rushing out to grab a hot slice right out of the over slathered with butter. Or maybe two slices, or three… and then poof! We need to make another loaf 😛

Well today is homemade bread day so I have an excuse to make bread and eat it today!

The USA was NEVER a Democracy

The USA was NEVER a Democracy

This is one of my biggest irritations with the general population. I know it’s clearly an educational issue, but it drives me so completely insane to hear people saying it -all the time- and everywhere. It doesn’t seem to matter who is saying it, people off the street, news anchors, politicians, businessmen, teachers, they all get it wrong.

If you don’t believe me just ask yourself when the last time you heard someone on television talking about how we are such a great Republic. The presidential election period is probably the most news heavy period that exists every four years, do you remember anyone talking about a Constitutional Republic?
